Diana Striplet '16 was selected as a Gates Millennium Scholar, winning a scholarship that will complete her college funding.

Recipients of the Gates Millennium Scholarships receive fully funded scholarships covering tuition, books, room, and board through graduate school.

Diana plans to attend medical school; she now looks ahead to her education and professional future with even more confidence as a result of this opportunity.

In establishing the scholarship, Gates Millennium Scholars, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation hoped to create a network of future leaders from around the world who would bring new vision and commitment to improving the life circumstances of citizens in their respective countries. Over time, it is anticipated that Gates Scholars will become leaders in all their respective fields, and will help to address global problems related to health, equity, technology, and learning - all areas in which the Foundation is deeply engaged.

The Millennium Scholars program was established in 1999 and funded by a $1.6 billion grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to remove financial barriers to higher education for high-achieving, low-income students.

Each year, the highly competitive program has selected 1,000 talented students nationwide to receive a good-through-graduation scholarship to use at any accredited college or university of their choice.
